Morning! 😃 ☕️
Same warmth, three different rooms.
Today the little endings disappear first, the 요, the 는, the 이, because those are the parts that carry respect, and the parts you drop when you get nervous.
In today's email…
-
📱 Day 2: the polite ending 요 and the particles 는 / 이 slip away
-
🌟 The 반말 / 해요체 / 합니다체 versions, who each one is for
-
🏃 The 요 that is the sound of politeness itself

🧠 MEMORIZE
우리 엄마___ 정___ 참 많아___. 처음 보는 사람한테도 밥부터 차려 줘요.
uri eomma-___ jeong-___ cham mana-___. cheoeum bo-neun saram-hante-do bap-buteo charyeo jwo-yo.
English: My mom has so much jeong. Even for a person she is meeting for the first time, she sets out food for them first.
Answer key at the bottom.
🌶️ HEAR IT
Today's trap: the 요 on 많아요. It is a soft, short "yo," lips a little rounded, not a long "yoh." It is the sound of politeness. Say "mana-yo," then say "mana" with no 요. Feel how dropping it suddenly makes you casual. That switch is today's whole lesson.
🎙 SAY IT BACK
Sunhee is awake right now.
Yesterday, one line. Today, say two lines back, both sentences, back to back: 우리 엄마는 정이 참 많아요. 처음 보는 사람한테도 밥부터 차려 줘요.
Part of every morning.
🔍️ WORD SPOTLIGHT
는, the topic marker on 엄마는. "As for my mom." It sets mom up as what the sentence is about.
이, the subject marker on 정이. 정 is the thing that exists in large amount; 이 marks it as the subject of 많아요.
The particle: 요, not a case particle, but the politeness ending. 요 is the single most important sound for a K-content learner.
